"Tunnel Rat, catch me digging through your girl's fox hole, Asian but I rock a bandanna." There are of course a number of ways we can interpret that line. I decided that having him in a party atmosphere would be the most appropriate. And I just had this vision of him in a hot tub with several women. Since the only working toy I could find was a Barbie hot tub, I thought perhaps I should push the envelope and have him partying with, you guessed it... Barbies! This is a product of getting the idea from the resources, which is what often times makes the best art. At least, that is what I was telling myself over and over as I played with the dolls. |
Here is the quick edit I did to see how the images flowed together. It is slowed way down from the final version at close to 5 frames per second. The final version will be much faster. It is not bad for shooting in the blind, but it needs a lot of post production work. I do like the hair of the dolls blowing in the wind. So it is not bad for my first outdoor shoot.
I had to borrow the dolls from my wife's best friend's daughters. They were thrilled. I was embarrassed. But sometimes you have to swallow your pride for you art. And I really didn't want to buy a bunch of Barbie stuff for just one shot. Barbies aren't cheap!
Below are some other takes using the same set, but at night to give it a more wild vibe. I also thought it that the girls in the first scene looked less engaged with Tunnel Rat. Clearly they were having a good time, but this scene needs to be a party!

This was actually my first attempt at this scene. I like it, and it might very well work, but the one thing I realized after shooting it, was that the bubbles were being shot at the same rate as the rest of the scene, which is fine with the movement of the car, but not so much for the movement of the people. So it ended up looking too mechanical. I was happy with the green screen results and feel good about the other scenes where it will be used. Like with the one above, I did a quick test edit just to see how everything was working.
None of these may make the final film as I also have the idea of putting Tunnel Rat in an actual fox hole with Scarlett, Lady Jaye, and Cover Girl. But this was a lot of fun to shoot, and I think it looks hysterical.
